TURNING RISK INTO RELIABILITY AEROSOL FIRE SUPPRESSION FOR ELECTRIC BUSES

EV PASSENGER BUSES

SAG SYSTEM CASE STUDY (2025)

THE FACT

MusterFire International was engaged to provide a turnkey fire suppression solution for an electric school transport fleet in Sydney. The primary challenge involved lithium battery packs that, once ignited, were difficult to extinguish with conventional systems. Through a comprehensive risk assessment, the team developed a tailored plan to safeguard both vehicle integrity and passenger safety.

THE CHALLENGE

The client’s electric buses operated under frequent start-stop conditions, creating a higher likelihood of electrical faults and overheating battery components. This presented a significant risk to passenger safety and the client’s public image, given the visibility of EV technology in the community. The challenge was to design a compact and effective fire suppression system that would detect faults early, activate automatically, and alert the driver in time to respond.

THE SOLUTION

MusterFire installed an Aerosol-based SAG Fire Suppression System, chosen for its compact size, lightweight design, and proven capability in confined spaces. The system was strategically fitted around the battery compartments and battery management systems, using low-temperature detection wire to ensure early warning of potential issues. The installation was completed on the client’s site under tight deadlines, ensuring compliance and minimal disruption to operations.

THE OUTCOME

The solution delivered a measurable improvement in passenger safety and early fault detection, giving drivers the crucial time to react and evacuate safely if needed. By integrating the SAG system, the client strengthened their EV fleet’s fire safety credentials, reinforcing confidence among operators, passengers, and regulators alike.
