MUSTER LAY FLAT SOLUTION

KENWORTH T659

FIRE SUPPRESSION CASE STUDY (2025)

THE FACT

A high-performance fire suppression upgrade was needed for a Kenworth T659 operating in a demanding vitrinite coal mine. The client had previously installed a competitor system but was left unimpressed—the tank was too tall and unstable on rough haul roads, leading to excessive movement and safety concerns. With 24/7 operations and heavy exposure to coal dust and engine heat, a more robust, low-profile solution was essential.

THE CHALLENGE

The environment was harsh: unsealed roads, 24/7 operations, and constant vibration from rugged haul routes.
With coal dust present and extreme engine temperatures around the turbo and exhaust, the risk of fire was high. If unaddressed, the consequences could have included serious operator injury, loss of machinery, or a catastrophic coal
stockpile fire-potentially costing millions.

THE SOLUTION

0MusterFire International (MFI) proposed a more robust solution: a 30L Lay Flat cylinder LHD foam-based suppression system, designed specifically to lower the centre of gravity and withstand tough operating conditions. The unit featured both cabin and external actuators, with nozzle placement adjusted on-site to suit the unique machine layout. The lay flat design kept the installation secure, compact, and out of the way.

THE OUTCOME

The result? A faster install compared to previous systems, with the truck commissioned and signed off for use on site sooner than expected. The new low-profile bottle eliminated vibration issues and added a superior level of stability and protection.
