THE FACT
The Mecalac Revotruck 6 fire suppression system by MusterFire was designed specifically for underground mining environments where space is tight and safety is critical. This high-performance dumper features a 270° hydraulic rotating cab that allows for enhanced maneuverability beneath conveyor belts in confined tunnels. However, its compact design and diesel engine configuration create serious fire risks that require a custom, robust solution.
THE CHALLENGE
Operating in extreme underground conditions, the Revotruck 6 presented several fire safety challenges. The enclosed air-conditioned cab capable of 270-degree rotation limited space for installation, while proximity to engine heat sources, diesel fuel, and minimal airflow created high-risk conditions. A traditional system wouldn’t fit. The fire suppression system needed to be compact, non-intrusive, and able to function without impacting the truck’s full rotation or operator comfort. Without a tailored solution, the consequences could include equipment damage, operational downtime, and compromised operator safety.
THE SOLUTION
MusterFire responded with a purpose-built foam-based fire suppression system using Lay Flat Cylinders, ideal for tight spaces and mobile equipment. The installation featured a Loss of Pressure (LOP) detection system and the Muster Indicator Panel, which provides operators with real-time system status and visual alerts inside the cab for system faults or fire. This intuitive interface adds another layer of confidence by ensuring the operator is always aware of the system’s readiness. Strategically placed discharge nozzles and a low-profile control system were also included. Every component was positioned to ensure the Revotruck’s full 270° cab rotation remained unhindered. The layout preserved accessibility for servicing while maintaining full compliance with AS5062 standards.
THE OUTCOME
The system installation was seamless, with zero impact on the dumper’s movement or functionality. The Revotruck 6 now operates with reliable, compact fire protection that meets stringent underground safety protocols. Operators can work with peace of mind, knowing the system is ready to detect and suppress fire instantly.
