Remote Fire Suppression Actuators: Giving Operators Immediate Manual Control

A remote actuator gives the operator direct manual control to activate the fire suppression system immediately, without waiting for automatic detection. Cab-mounted, stainless steel, available in push-button or lever configuration.

Automatic fire detection is fast. But it has a defined trigger point: the detection wire or tube has to reach its rated temperature before the system activates. There’s a gap between a situation becoming dangerous and the moment automatic detection responds to it. The remote actuator closes that gap. One motion, and the system discharges.

See how a Muster remote actuator provides manual fire suppression system activation.

What Is a Remote Actuator?

A remote actuator is a manual activation device connected to the fire suppression system and mounted in the operator cab. When pressed or operated, it sends an activation signal directly to the cylinder valve or mechanically triggers the discharge sequence. It bypasses the automatic detection sequence entirely — the operator’s action activates the system directly.

Push-Button vs Lever Design

Actuator Configurations

  • Push-button: single-action button. Fast, suited to most cab installations.
  • Lever: single-motion pull. Used where gloved operation is common or a more deliberate physical action is appropriate.
  • Both available in LHD (electronic) and LOP (pneumatic) versions
  • Stainless steel construction as standard

Why Manual Activation Matters

An operator who can see flame or smoke from the cab has information the detection system doesn’t have yet. The ability to activate without exiting the cab, without reaching a hand extinguisher, is a significant safety advantage — particularly for machines in remote mining locations or agricultural paddocks far from emergency services.

Wireless Actuators for Autonomous Equipment

Remote Activation for Autonomous Vehicles

For autonomous vehicles and remote-operated equipment, Muster offers a wireless actuator that enables fire suppression activation from a safe distance outside the vehicle perimeter.

Frequently Asked Questions

In the operator cab, positioned for immediate access without leaving the normal operating position.

Yes. Manual actuation activates the system directly, independent of the automatic detection circuit. The two paths operate independently.

Yes. LHD and LOP actuators are available for foam, SAG and IPS systems.

For autonomous and remotely operated equipment — allows activation from a safe distance when no operator is in the cab.
